I am an artist who writes. I write in fixed and free verse. I expand my texts into scripts, librettos, and artist books. Inspired by literature, advertising copy, and text messages exchanges, I revel in the slipperiness of language.
I am a writer who performs. I create solo and ensemble performances, as well as collaborate on spoken word operas. Influenced by psychology and feminist theory, my primary interest is voice. I explore how dialogue, monologue, and call and response play against the performer’s gestures and affect. The staging of the performances reveal tensions within the spoken language.
I am a performer who makes books. The content—whether it be writings, photographs, or performances—drives the formal qualities of the book or print. As I design, I draw upon my experience in architecture and photography. Careful attention is paid to pacing: the relationship between the viewer and the work is paramount.
I toe the edge of the familiar—finding in my investigations that looking too closely or too long at one thing makes everything normal look strange.
